Ready, Set, Hike: My Hiking Checklist
Switzerland’s incredible landscapes are perfect for hiking, but preparation is key to making the most of your adventure. Here is my checklist:
Footwear & Clothing
Sturdy Hiking Boots: Gore-Tex hiking boots for waterproofing, grip, and ankle support.
Hiking Socks: Cushioned socks to prevent blisters and keep feet comfortable.
Layered Clothing: Insulating mid-layer and waterproof jacket to adjust to changing weather.
Hat: A wide-brimmed or cap-style hat for sun and weather protection.
Gear
Camera & Smartphone & Portable Battery: For photos and to ensure you stay connected.
Lightweight Backpack: A comfortable pack to carry all essentials without adding bulk.
Map Apps: Komoot app for offline trail navigation and route planning.
Water & Food
Water: At least 1.5-2 liters of water in an aluminum bottle to stay hydrated and keep it cool.
High-Energy Snacks: Energy bars (I like the PeakPunk brand), nuts, or Swiss chocolate for quick energy on the trail.
Protection
Sun Protection: Sunscreen with SPF to protect skin from UV rays at high altitudes.
Insect Repellent: Essential to ward off insects, especially in summer.
First Aid Kit: Basic medical supplies for minor injuries or emergencies.
Other
Cash: Some mountain huts and small vendors only accept cash.
Swiss Army Knife: Versatile tool for various tasks and minor repairs.
Toilet Paper: For emergencies when facilities aren’t available on the trail.
Reusable Zip Bag: For storing trash or keeping small items organized.
